Sinopsis

The ultra-modern mega-city of Tokyo was once called Edo many centuries ago. The traditional, everyday life of the million or so inhabitants of Edo lives on in the time-honoured woodblock prints called Ukiyo-e which were extremely popular during this period of Japanese history. The vibrant and alluring Edo era was renowned for its deep fascination with artistic accomplishments and creativity of which the Ukiyo-e woodprints are a prime example. Each episode of this show focuses on the story of an individual print which also reveals the way of life in Old Tokyo at this time. As well as admiring the beauty and significance of the work of artists such as Hokusai and Hiroshige, the viewer is also presented with the stories behind the images and the artists.
